Details
Bring your gardening gloves and get ready to dig into some fun as we come together to clean up our beloved campus! Students, families, faculty/staff and alums are invited to join us for this day of service. TLS Living Land Acknowledgement: We are on the ancestral land of the Duwamish, Snoqualmie, Stillaguamish, Cayuse and Walla Walla. These tribes have preserved and nurtured this land since time immemorial. There would not be such a healthy and natural forest for us to enjoy if they didn't. We honor their commitment and hope to maintain and restore the natural cycle of nature. We are grateful that TLS prioritizes protecting nature and we are committed to sustain this land and teach others how to take care of it so that our children's children's children will be able to enjoy and connect with the sacred land that we are now on. We recognize that our work here is not finished, and we hope that we will keep on adding to and improving this land acknowledgement over time.

Juneteenth Community Celebration

Details
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is an annual holiday celebrated on 19 June in the United States. The day commemorates the day in 1865 when Union Army General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people in Texas were free, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The celebration of Juneteenth has roots in African American communities and has been observed since the late 1800s. It is a day to remember and honor the struggles and sacrifices of African Americans in their continued fight for freedom and equality. In 2021, President Joe Biden declared it a federal holiday in the US. This year The Little School and Eton School are honored to host a Juneteenth Community Celebration designed to center, celebrate and support Black voices and businesses. Free and open to the public, this event is on Saturday, June 15 from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Save the date and stay tuned for more information! Questions? Reach out to Community Events and Alumni Coordinator, Jenny Chiang at jennyc@thelittleschool.org.
